Police are awaiting post-mortem results to determine the cause of death of a young woman found in Nadi.

Her body was discovered Sunday in a sugarcane field along Mate Road, Korovuto, Nadi.

Police confirmed the body was sent for post-mortem examination today.

Authorities say the results will provide crucial details on the cause and circumstances of death.

Police sources said the body was partially decomposed and the face severely damaged, making identification difficult.

They have not confirmed the woman’s identity or exact age due to the condition of the body.

Police believe the decomposition was accelerated by recent sunny and rainy weather.

Investigators have withheld further details as inquiries continue.

Police say all aspects of the case are being examined and post-mortem results will guide the investigation.

The body was discovered by a family returning from fishing near a river.

Resident Margaret Agnes said her husband noticed blood along the grass while walking through the field and initially thought it was an animal.

She said the trail led into the sugarcane field, where they found a body lying on the ground.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wame Bautolu said investigations are ongoing and further details will be released later.
