Alleged Axe Murderer Remanded In Custody

The High Court in Suva has told a 21-year-old farmer facing murder charges to file a formal bail application as the charge against him is serious.
Judge Justice Daniel Goundar has remanded the accused, Fabiano Dakai,in custody.
The the accused opted to engage a legal counsel and file a formal bail application.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Meli Vosawale told the court that the accused was from the same village as the deceased, but they were not related.
He told the court that on the day of the alleged incident, the accused hit Dogai with an axe through the window while he was asleep. He told the court that the alleged incident took place between 5am to 6am.
Mr Vosawale also told the court that in his admission, the accused had claimed that he was trying to be David and killed the deceased whom he referred to as Goliath.
In the admission, the accused also claimed that he killed the deceased because he was practising witchcraft.
Mr Vosawale also told the court that during the time of the alleged offense, the accused was serving a suspended sentence for aggravated robbery. He also requested a psychiatric assistance for the accused.
The case is adjourned to April 29.
