Backbencher Lynda Tabuya is earmarked to be the new Minister for Information.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka believes she is the ideal candidate for the role.

"That is a suitable portfolio for her with her personality and her accessibility to the press and the media people," Mr Rabuka said.

"That is a possibility, I have indicated that she can be back in Cabinet." Mr Rabuka did not specify whether this addition will prompt a Cabinet reshuffle.

Ms Tabuya was dismissed from Cabinet last December following the emergence of an explicit video on Christmas eve.

She acknowledged the video’s authenticity, asserting that it was intended for her former husband, Robert Semaan, from whom she divorced in 2016.

When approached for a comment yesterday, Ms Tabuya said that no approach has been made to formalise such consideration.

“I saw that in the Fiji Sun, that’s news to me. I have not been officially approached,” she said.

It’s his prerogative to reinstate me, I will just wait until that happens, in the meantime, I’m committed to serving the people, and our work remain the same.

“Just having another woman in Cabinet, there will be three of us, I have been advocating for that, I think that’s a huge achievement, so I’m just waiting to hear from him officially.”

She said the last two months has been ‘good’ as she connected with the public and listened to their social woes that needs Government interventions.

Of the women MPs, Ms Tabuya amassed the highest number of votes in the 2022 general elections.

In fact, she raked in the fourth highest votes behind Voreqe Bainimarama, Mr Rabuka and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
