Victim dies as CID probes alleged police assault in Beqa

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has confirmed an open investigation into the alleged assault.

Police are awaiting post-mortem results as investigations continue into allegations that police officers and a Republic of Fiji Military Forces officer assaulted a man in Dakuni, Beqa.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has confirmed an open investigation into the alleged assault.

Police said the victim’s wife lodged a complaint with the Internal Affairs Department on March 31, 2026. The matter was later referred to CID because of the nature of the allegations.

Investigators have recorded statements from the victim’s wife, medical officials and villagers before the victim died.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, with investigators expected to use the findings to determine the next steps in the case.

Investigations are continuing.
