The People's Alliance explores China's poverty alleviation strategies

People's Alliance Party (PAP) president Ratu Josefa Dimuri says the party's recent visit to China focused on learning poverty reduction models that could be adapted for Fiji.

Mr Dimuri said six PAP members travelled to China to study approaches that could help address poverty challenges in Fiji.

"We looked at some of the poverty alleviation models that we can adopt and replicate here in Fiji," Mr Dimuri said.

He said the visit was fully funded and that PAP was among several political parties invited to take part in the programme.

The comments follow the delegation's visit to the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) on July 2.

During the visit, the delegation, led by Ratu Josefa, met IPRCC Director General Liu Junwen to discuss poverty reduction initiatives.

Mr Liu welcomed the delegation and shared China's experience in targeted poverty alleviation.

Mr Dimuri outlined Fiji's poverty challenges and acknowledged China's achievements in reducing poverty.

He said there was a need to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China on poverty alleviation.

Officials from the IPRCC's Research Division, Training Division, International Exchange Division, Cooperation Division and Foreign Affairs Division also attended the meeting.
