The Macuata rugby team redeemed themselves with an impressive 32-15 win over Yasawa in their Skipper Cup clash in Lautoka, last Saturday.

The Northerners are gunning for another win as they face Tailevu at Subrail Park, Labasa, this Saturday.

Macuata coach Voreqe Bainimarama told SUNsports that after their loss to Ba, they had to work hard to restore lost glory.

“We trained hard throughout the week,” he said.

“We came (to Viti Levu) expecting a win against Ba but it was unsuccessful. We worked on our weakness from our match against Ba to strengthen the game against Yasawa.”

Bainimarama said due to their position on the points table their match against Tailevu would be their final.

He pointed out that although they were playing away from home his players did their best to get the win.

Yasawa coach Taione Ratu commended Macuata for their effort

“Macuata played really well, they came out to win and they deserve it,” he said

Ratu said they face Namosi this weekend, which would be another torrid encounter.

“We’ll go back regroup and we are still trusting the process that we’ll keep on building from here onwards.”

Meanwhile, the Macuata Under-20 rugby side won by default over Yasawa.

This was after some Yasawa players were not registered and did not have their identification cards.
