Ba opts for underdog tag in semifinal

The New World IGA Ba women’s rugby team is going in as underdogs in next week’s Royal Tea Ranadi Cup semi-final clash.
These were the comments of team manager Malakai Vukinavanua.
Ba takes on Rewa in the first semifinal at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva next Tuesday.

They have created history for Ba Rugby Union when they booked their spot in the top four.
They lost in the quarterfinals in the last two years.
“We are doing our usual preparations and everyone is looking forward,” Vukinavanua said.
“We are going as underdogs and with a low profile.
“We know all teams are vying for the Marama Cup spot and Rewa will be preparing well for this match.
“They are a quality side, there are a few experienced players on their team and we know they’re going to be tough.”
Ba has been undefeated since the first round and thrashed Nanukuloa, 102-15, in the quarterfinal at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka on Tuesday.
However, Vukinavanua said they are not banking on that win, they will need to lift their preparation.
“We are treating this game as a final.
“This will be our first time in the Ranadi semi-finals and we will do our best.
“Despite our big win, we still have a lot of weakenesses in our team, which we’ll need to iron out before Tuesday.
“We will do our homework well,” he added.
Vukinavanua is calling for the support of the vanua of Ba, its fans and supporters to rally behind them in Suva next week.
Ba have some talented players like Vitorina Veikoso, Nanise Tuwai and Salote Vuniwaqa.
Meanwhile, the second semifinal will see Macuata taking on Tavua.
