Success does not happen overnight, it takes a lot of time, hardwork and challenges.

Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) board chairman John Sanday made the comments regarding the Fijiana XVs performance at the Women’s World Cup in England.

They have missed out on the play-offs after losing two matches; 7-65 against Canada and 15-29 to Scotland.

They meet Wales at 1:45am on Sunday (Fiji time) in their last Pool B match.

“On our Fijiana’s ongoing performance at the Women’s Rugby World Cup, I think the Fijiana showed their potential in the game against Scotland last weekend.

“We are building Fijiana for long lasting success and their true power will be seen at the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2029 in Australia. Like in any building phase, we will always go through times of extreme difficulty and losses. This is required to build the character of the team.

“We all learn from our disappointments and we step up and push ourselves to perform at the next one. It is a learning process and growth comes from that. Having said this, the Fijiana are still new to the world stage and every game against performing or Tier 1 nations is the best experience one can get regardless of the results.

“We get to learn how and what it feels like to be at that level. That is the learning. I continue to urge all of us to give our 100 per cent support to the girls. It is not easy playing at that level and to make constructive observations on how they can improve. They are our girls and we support them 100 per cent.”
