The Fiji Volleyball Referees group plans to hold the referees’ examination on April 4.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday former Fiji Volleyball Federation (FVF) general secretary and referees’ director Jerry Cakau Saylor said the exam would give referees a chance to qualify to officiate matches.
“To get qualified for a community volleyball referees’ badge under Nasinu Alliance Volleyball Association,” he said.

Saylor said volleyball had several levels for referees such as community, district, national, and the FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball) international level.
Saylor said the exam was important because it has not been offered for many years.
“FVF has never been doing this for so many years to referees. I’m the only one doing it in order to keep the sport alive and inspire referees to be updated with rules.”
He said the exam would support referees in their own associations before they move on to FVF sanctioned tournaments.
“There will be resources for their own respective volleyball associations before excelling to FVF sanctioned tournaments and it’s like a pathway,” he said.
Saylor added that this was the first exam for the group he taught in December 2025 in Suva.
“I was only doing clinics, but this is the first for exams. Basically, what I have taught is now in a black and white paper. Some scenarios for them to answer, like multiple choice and short answers.”
He has informed FVF about his plan and was running the programme at his own expense.
