Just 17 kilometres from Labasa Town lies one of Vanua Levu’s most fascinating natural wonders, the Tabia Hot Spring, locally known as garam pani.

Steaming and bubbling, the sacred spring has long been a place of worship and cultural significance, drawing Hindu devotees from across Fiji and even overseas.

For the Indo-Fijian community, the waters are regarded as a divine blessing, and the recently completed Tabia Garam Pani Shiv Mandir now provides a proper space for worship and reflection.

Visitors are often amazed by the spring’s natural heat. Residents say eggs can be boiled in minutes, adding a playful curiosity to this sacred site.

Getting there is simple: a 20-minute bus ride from Labasa costs around $1.45, or taxis are available for approximately $12.

The journey through lush Vanua Levu countryside makes the trip even more memorable.

Local residents attest to the spring’s enduring allure.

Anita Lal from Tabia said, “The water is so hot that we can boil eggs in it. Devotees come from overseas just to experience it.”

Vimal Deo added, “The hot water keeps flowing, and it is very hot and clean, a true blessing for the people of Tabia.”

The site has recently gained government attention, with Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Charan Jeath Singh officiating at the commissioning of the new temple.

He also highlighted ongoing geothermal surveys in Vanua Levu, hinting at potential future energy projects that could boost economic opportunities in the north.

Whether you are seeking spiritual solace, cultural immersion, or simply a unique natural attraction, Tabia hot spring remains a must-visit destination when exploring Labasa.
