If you ever want to escape from the noise of the busy Suva area, then a visit to the Colo-i-Suva natural forest park would be the perfect choice.

The lush ecosystem of Fiji’s flora and fauna welcomes visitors with walking trails that will guide your way into the well protect forest park.

Established in 1952, the Forest Park is a 4.97 square kilometer sanctuary of lush rainforest filled with tropical plants and a songful bird life.

Since then, the landowners together with the Ministry of Forestry has been looking after the upkeep of the forest to ensure the rich vegetation of tropical plants are well protected.

Sitting at an elevation of 56 metres, it’s a peaceful place off Suva’s Princes Road with breathtaking views that your family and friends can enjoy.

To add to the hiking adventure, there is also a natural swimming pool that flows from Waisiliva creek to the Colo-i-Suva natural forest park.

The clear and pristine natural cold water provides a refreshing swim for visiting family and friends.

Over the years, many families and friends have flocked down to the Colo-i-Suva natural forest park as an alternative spot for a refreshing swim.

To add more fun, there are rope swings that people can use to plunge into the cold refreshing water. Although caution is advised as the swimming area may be slippery.

There are forest rangers around to help guide visitors around the forest park and it is always advisable to wear proper footwear to be worn to protect yourself.

It is also advisable to pay attention to guides, arrows and little reminders on woods that are placed around the path for hiking.

While some locals know their way around the forest park, it is best to follow a guided tour with an experienced tour guide who would know more about the area and various forest species.

There are also various facilities available to accommodate visitors needs such as toilets.

How to get there?

To get to Colo-i-Suva forets park, you’ll need to catch the Tacirua bus that has the sign board written ‘Sawani’.

This bus is usually parked outside the flea market.

The bus fare costs around $2 - $2.50 and will take you along Princess Road where you will come across the colo-i-Suva forest park.

If you are lost on directions, just remind the bus driver of where you want to get off and they will stop at the designated area.

Once you get to there, you will need to pay a small fee which contributes to the maintenance of the forest park.

Travel arrangements van also be made prior to touring the forest park.
