Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially launched TISA Insurance (Fiji) Limited at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Wednesday night.

The launch marks the rebranding of Capital Insurance Limited into a unified Pacific identity under the TISA Insurance name.

Mr Rabuka said insurance was not a peripheral product, but a key pillar of national development, particularly for small island nations vulnerable to climate risks and global economic shocks.

“Insurance converts uncertainty into confidence,” he said.

“It enables investment, supports entrepreneurship, protects household welfare and ensures that when adversity strikes, whether economic or environmental, recovery is possible and dignified.”

Mr Rabuka also assured existing policyholders that the transition would preserve all current obligations, with customers continuing to receive uninterrupted protection and services under the new brand.

TISA Insurance Fiji chief executive officer David Chan said the rebrand reflected the coming together of decades of Pacific insurance heritage.

Formerly known as Dominion Insurance and later Capital Insurance, the company now operates under a single regional identity.

“We bring our customers under our roof. We promise to look after them and when the storm comes, we are the ones who answer the door,” Mr Chan said.

Group chairman Sir Michael Coyson OBE said the institution traced its origins back more than 50 years to Papua New Guinea, where it began as PAPA (Pan Asia Pacific Assurance) before expanding into Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands.

Group chief executive officer Jeremy Norton said Fiji remained a key and growing market for the company.

“We’ve got more work to do, but the team here is working really hard to make sure that TISA Insurance is the natural and obvious choice for insurance here in Fiji,” Mr Norton said.
