Healthcare is not only about treating illness—it’s about humanity, compassion, and standing with our communities, says Aspen Medical chief executive officer Gavin Whiteside.

He made the remarks after Lautoka and Ba hospitals joined hands to bring joy and hope to some of the most vulnerable children in the Western Division through the Tree of Hope Drive.

Children from St Tabitha Children’s Home in Saweni, Lautoka, and the Veilomani Boys Home in Ba were the recipients of thoughtfully selected gifts.

Mr Whiteside said the initiative spoke to the heart of the organisation’s values.

“Seeing our staff personally hand gifts to these children was incredibly moving. It wasn’t about the presents themselves, but about the message behind them: that these children matter, that they are not forgotten, and that hope is something we build together,” Mr Whiteside said.

It was more than a donation drive—the initiative was an act of connection, with hospital staff taking time to meet the children, share smiles, and remind them that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

The Tree of Hope Drive reflects Aspen Medical’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities it serves, extending care beyond hospital walls and into the lives of those who need it most.

For many of the children, the moment was filled with excitement and emotion, as each gift was chosen with care and delivered with genuine warmth.

Laughter, shy smiles, and heartfelt thanks filled the rooms, creating memories that will last far beyond the festive season.
