Rarama Indoor Playground is helping transform family recreation in Lautoka by offering safe, affordable and community-focused indoor play opportunities for children and parents.
Founded by Sarah Tuinanuya, the woman-led initiative was created to address the lack of accessible and reasonably priced recreational spaces for local families.
The indoor playground charges $5 per child per hour, making it one of the most affordable facilities of its kind in the region.

The playground promotes healthy, screen-free play through non-electronic toys and activities designed to encourage creativity, physical activity and social interaction among children.
Safety is also a major focus, with parents or guardians required to supervise children under the age of eight while on site.
Located on Naviti Street, the facility can accommodate up to 45 children and serves as more than just a play centre. It also operates as a community hub, hosting beginner music lessons, small-group activities and Sunday church services through partnerships with local organisations.
Families are encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks, helping to reduce outing costs and simplify visits. Chewing gum is prohibited for hygiene and safety reasons.
Rarama currently employs two local staff members in administration and safety roles, with plans to recruit two more employees as operations expand.
Ms Tuinanuya said she would continue overseeing daily operations and community engagement efforts.
The playground operates:
- Monday to Thursday: 2.30pm–6pm
- Friday: 1pm–6pm
- Saturday: 10am–6pm
- Sunday: Closed to the public for church services
Looking ahead, the business plans to establish a professional daycare facility for children aged three to five by August 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
Ms Tuinanuya, a Fijian entrepreneur and mother of two, said the vision behind Rarama was to create an inclusive environment where every family could access quality recreation regardless of income level.
“We want to create a place where every family, regardless of budget, can come together for fun,” she said.
“A safe, vibrant space for children, for kids to explore, build and dream right here in Lautoka. Rarama isn’t just a playground — it is a community hub where parents can connect and kids can play safely.”
