Woman admits to drunk driving in weekend accident

The cook pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving and one count of drunk and disorderly.

A 44-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving and drunk and disorderly conduct following a weekend accident in Tuatua, Labasa.

Amele Tikomainaivalu appeared before Magistrate Safaira Ratu at the Labasa Magistrate Court this morning, where she admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the crash.

Police prosecutor Constable Vimleshwar Chand did not oppose bail, and Tikomainaivalu was released on a $500 cash bond.

Magistrate Ratu ordered her to surrender her travel documents and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.

The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for mention.
