A Labasa family has been left homeless after a fire destroyed their three-bedroom home in Wainikoro on Sunday afternoon.
Homeowner Rajneil Prasad said only his brother was inside the house when the fire broke out, while he was away. The two were the only family members living in the house.
Mr Prasad said the fire started at about 3pm and is believed to have originated in the kitchen, although the exact cause remains unknown.

"While the fire started from the kitchen, my brother was in the room when he saw smoke coming out and then he came outside," he said.
No one was injured, but the corrugated iron and timber home was completely destroyed.
Mr Prasad said Police attended the scene and took a report, while the National Fire Authority (NFA) responded the following morning.
The family is now appealing to the public for assistance and can be contacted on 8467441 or 2528888.
Police Sergeant Wame Bautolu confirmed the incident occurred at about 4pm at Nasasa Daku, Wainikoro, Labasa.
He said the home, owned by a 35-year-old farmer, was completely destroyed by fire.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined and no casualties were reported. Police have classified the matter as under investigation.
The National Fire Authority said the incident had been acknowledged and referred to the relevant department for the necessary action.
"The team will review the matter and get back to this masthead accordingly," the NFA said.
