A special Police team was deployed last night to verify claims on social media that there were attempts on Saturday to kidnap a 12-year-old boy at Saweni, Lautoka.
Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said last night: “I have directed a team to investigate the claims made because we will not take any issues concerning children lightly.
“The special team was deployed and tasked to gather information that could assist us get to the truth.

“We are working closely with went viral last night on Facebook, medical authorities to verify these claims.
“We have reached out to members of the public that should they have any information that they should contact us immediately so we can investigate,” he said.
A post from a person claiming to be a nurse at Lautoka Hospital with more than 400 shares, claiming that two men forced the child into a van.
The post further claimed that the child reportedly saw a refrigerator in the vehicle.
The post alleged that the child was given lollypop to eat, after which he says he felt dizzy and was taken in a white van
He claims to have fought his way out of the van.
The special Police team is now working round the clock to verify whether there is any truth in the claims made in the Facebook post. Edited by Epineri Vula
