A Heavy Rain Alert is now in force for the Northern Division and Northern Lau Group.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has confirmed that a trough of low pressure lies to the north of the country.

"It is expected to gradually drift south and affect the northern parts of the group from later today. It is expected to bring

occasional rain, heavy at times, over the areas under Heavy Rain Alert," the statement said.

The Fiji Met wishes to advise members of the public that the heavy rain falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

This might lead to minor roads and iris crossing with some disruption to traffic flow and poor visibility.

Mariners are to note that this condition is expected to persist till the coming days with moderate to rough seas.

The Fiji Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this weather event and update

warnings and forecasts accordingly.
