A group of Lautoka youths intend to construct a home to shelter the growing number of homeless people who live in areas around the city.

The Providing Young Generation Movement in Every Society (PYGMIES) based in Lautoka has been an active male dominated group, assisting the vulnerable and taking care of the needs of those in the Lautoka area for a number of years now.

PYGMIES president, Josateki Labalaba said it had been a long time dream for the group to get a home constructed for the homeless. With this is a project the

PYGMIES hope to seek the assistance of relevant authorities and Government.

Mr Labalaba said every individual deserved to be equally treated and more love and attention from the families must be shown to those who made the streets of Lautoka their home.

“We must work together to build a home for them,” he said.

“Those, who are continuously building churches should divert the building of churches to the building of homes for the homeless.”

The group is pleading to the various organisations and relevant authorities to step forward in assisting the group.
