Leadership shift: Rev Dr Turagavou elected general secretary for 2027

Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma president Reverend Doctor Semisi Turagavou has been elected general secretary-elect and will take up the position in 2027.

His election follows the election of current general secretary Reverend Doctor Jolami Lasawa as president-elect.

The leadership changes mean Rev Dr Lasawa will succeed Rev Dr Turagavou as president, while Rev Dr Turagavou will move into the general secretary’s position currently held by Rev Dr Lasawa.

The elections were held during Day Three of the Methodist Church’s 2026 Annual Conference in Suva.

Rev Dr Lasawa will provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to the church when he assumes the presidency in 2027.

Rev Dr Turagavou’s election as general secretary-elect marks another major leadership transition for the church as it prepares for its administration in 2027.

The conference also held elections for assistant general secretary, a position currently held by Reverend Doctor Anil Reuben.

The result is expected to be announced tomorrow.

Rev Dr Reuben’s current five-year term as assistant general secretary will conclude in April 2027.

Conference members also discussed matters concerning Davuilevu Theological College, the Deaconess Order and the Women’s Fellowship.

Representatives from the institutions and departments responded to questions and issues raised by conference members.

The annual conference continues this week with further deliberations and announcements expected.
