Heavy rain and the accompanying floods have created one more challenge for us, says Wainadoi resident Praneel Sen.

The settlement, which is about 15 kilometres from Navua Town, usually gets flooded during heavy downpour leaving residents to deal with the losses.

The rains from Saturday night damaged one of the bridges in the area that was used by several residents to access the main road.

“The bridge has been around for almost 10 years and we depended on it,” Mr Sen said.

“On Saturday night, part of it was washed away with the flood waters.

“So now, we have to come take a long walk to use the makeshift bridge residents have built on the other end.”

He added that residents have already begun preparations in case the weather worsened over the coming days.

“This area gets flooded often so we are already taking necessary precautions,” he said.
