Bainimarama during an earlier interview stated that an effective pre-season is vital for a good performance the following season.
“Our scrums and ruck areas need improvement, so we need players that can dominate these areas to give us an edge against other teams.”
Union vice-president, Joji Vuakaca, said the potential is there among players, but, to create a mindset of semi-professional where players focus on correct diet, daily training would be crucial.
Vuakaca said weekly club games must be observed to scout and then train some players to improve weak areas before drafted into main squad.
Player welfare
Players selected to play for the senior side are offered cash incentive depending on the result of the game, so getting selected helps to earn some money.
Vuakaca said financially they have to be strong as a union.
Macuata women lost in the semi-final of the Ranadi Cup this season to Kadavu 40-18 in Sigatoka.

Women’s coach, Motu Lalagavesi, said they will try again next season to win the Cup.
“Our aim will remain the same and we will prepare hard to qualify for the ANZ Marama Championship.” he said.
