Sub junior boys’ 400 gold medallist Aporosa Lalabalavu dedicated his win to his parents after his win at the 2022 Coca-Cola Games at the HFC Stadium in Suva on Friday 19, August.
He clocked 54.4 seconds to win Cuvu College’s first gold medal.
Speaking to SUNsports Lalabalavu said the gold medal win was the reward for his parents’ support.
“To my parents this gold medal is coming home to you, I hope you’ll forgive me if it’s not enough. This is for their endless love and support,” he said.
“Thank you for always keeping up with me and pushing me even when I wanted to lose hope.
“This is in recognition for their support and my hard work.
“Although my parents are not present here at the Cokes, I strongly believe that are cheering and supporting me back in my village, Cuvu.
“I trained in school and at the sand dunes because I live near there.
He added that through patience and silent training the job is finally done.
“Looking back that was what I had set to achieve - it it’s a dream come true for me personally,” he said.
“The competition is another level. It is my first time here and I absorbed it well, the atmosphere and the environment are amazing.”
