The High Commission of India and the Suva Cricket Association hosted the fourth edition of the India-Fiji Twenty20 tournament at Albert Park last Saturday.
The tournament aims to keep youths engaged in sport and away from criminal activities, including drugs. The competition final is scheduled for June 13.
Speaking to SUNsports, Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta said the partnership with the Suva Cricket Association was focused on promoting a drug-free Fiji.
“The theme for this competition is ‘Bat healthy and bowl out drugs’. The idea is to help keep Fiji drug-free and I’m sure cricket can play an important role in keeping drugs out of the country,” he said.
Suva Cricket Association and Cricket Fiji board director Sumanta Rout said the tournament featured affiliated teams from around the country.
“The teams participating in this competition are BSP, Cicia, CAF Warriors, Police, Army, Mace, Ono-I-Lau and Nasaqalau,” he said.
Rout also acknowledged the High Commission of India for partnering with the association through sport.
“I invite all cricket lovers, families, friends and the people of Fiji to come and support this cricket tournament,” he added.
