Nasinu eyes top two finish

The Nasinu women’s team is hoping to reach the final of this year’s Subrails Marama Cup competition.

Captain Sera Bolatini said after their semi-finals loss to Namosi last year, they have learnt a lot of positive lessons.

“We’re aiming to be better than last year,” the 24-year-old said.

“We have a lot of fresh faces. There are many students in our squad and we are going to work with them.”

Bolatini had a busy a year in 2025 – she played for Nasinu, returned to the Fijiana 7s side for the HSBC series and because the first Fijian woman to win an international boxing title.

The Vuma, Ovalau, Lomaiviti lass created history by winning the WBA (World Boxing Association) super welterweight Oceania title in July last year. She won by uninamous points against Connie Chan of Australia.

“It takes a lot of commitment and hardwork to achieve all I did and I hope to do better than last year,” she said.

“Switching from 15s to 7s takes a lot of fitness and boxing has taught me to prepare mentally and instilled me with a lot of skills

“I want to show the young Fijians girls that anything is possible when you’re committed and put your mind to the things you’re working for.

“I did not even dream to achieve all this and I thank God for holding me through. No dream is too big.”

Bolatini added while she was part of the Drua extended squad she hopes to make it to the team in future.

The Marama Cup competition will kick-off on August 1.
