Fijian students keep their culture alive while studying in China

Fijian students studying in Beijing marked Fiji Day by sharing their traditions, strengthening friendships and celebrating their national identity far from home.

Fijian students studying in Beijing came together to celebrate Fiji Day, sharing their culture, traditions and national pride while living thousands of miles from home.

The celebration gave the students an opportunity to reconnect with their roots, meet fellow Fijians and remember the country they call home.

For students studying in China, Fiji Day was more than a celebration. It was a reminder of their identity, the values they grew up with and the people who continue to support them back home.

Lindy Telai said the celebration allowed Fijian students to come together and maintain their connection to home while pursuing their studies in China.

Away from their families and familiar surroundings, the gathering provided an opportunity to share stories, enjoy Fijian traditions and strengthen their connections with one another.

The celebration also highlighted the experiences of young Fijians pursuing their education in China, where they are learning new skills, experiencing a different culture and preparing for their futures.

Despite the distance, the students kept a piece of Fiji with them through their language, traditions, food and shared experiences.

Their celebration showed that being away from home does not mean losing touch with their roots.

For the students, Fiji Day in Beijing was an opportunity to celebrate not only their national identity but also the friendships and connections that help make life abroad feel closer to home.
