More than 60 children from four different charities in the Western Division received gifts this week.

They were donated by Hollywood actress Rebel Wilson during her time in Fiji filming the Open for Happiness campaign.

The gifts were distributed to the children of St Tabatha’s Children’s Home in Saweni, Loloma Home & Care Centre in Sabeto, St Mina Coptic Orthodox Children’s Home in Leqaleqa and Treasure House Christian Children’s Home in Nadi.

Sister Melani, the matron-in-charge at St. Tabatha’s Children’s Home in Saweni, said the donation was timely for the 13 children residing at the home.

Sister Melani added, “We’re going to wrap them up right after this and put them under the Christmas tree for the children next week so thank you, Rebel Wilson, so very much!”

Tourism Fiji worked with Denyse McPhail, whose family have been involved in charity work in Fiji since 1975, to help distribute the gifts to charities that needed it.

“We were happy to help! I divided the gifts into separate boxes for each of the homes we visited this week. For these kids, new toys are so special."

“I would also just like to encourage people, those who can afford to do so, please reach out this festive season and make a kind donation to a charity of your choosing,” Ms McPhail said.

“A small act of kindness really does make a difference.”

Treasure House Christian Children’s Home director, Ulamila Kaisau said the fact that they were thought of during these times is preciously appreciated.

“From the Treasure House Children’s Home management team, thank you, Rebel Wilson, greatly for the token of thoughts and gifts,” she said.
