Vasaqa Fiji is carving out a niche in Nadi’s dining scene, offering a relaxed sunset setting paired with smoked meats, local flavours and a modern take on island cuisine.
Located in Wailoaloa, the restaurant delivers a casual dining experience centred on traditional smoking techniques, slow-cooked meats and craft cocktails, attracting both locals and visitors looking for something distinctive.
General Manager Benji Hussain said the concept was inspired by Fiji’s culinary heritage, with a modern twist.

“Inspired by the island’s rich culinary heritage, we aimed to elevate comfort food with global influences and premium ingredients,” Mr Hussain said.
“We take Pacific classics to the next level, like smoked Kusima and lovo with brisket toppings. Our team uses fresh local ingredients and traditional smoking techniques to create distinct flavours.”
Vasaqa’s menu is built around long-cook preparations, including eight-hour spit-roasted pork and 10-hour smoked brisket, alongside vegetarian options, delivering depth of flavour that has become a drawcard for diners.
The brand’s journey began with informal gatherings among friends — Sunday cook-ups around a fire, smoking meats and sharing meals — before growing into a hole-in-the-wall takeaway in Namaka. Over nearly a decade, it has evolved into a recognised name in catering and hospitality, now operating as a full-service restaurant.
The name “Vasaqa,” meaning “to cook” in Fijian, reflects its focus on simple, flavour-driven food, with growth supported by strong community backing.
Mr Hussain said consistency and service have been key to building its reputation. Signature dishes include Krackling Pork, Kokoda, Palusami, brisket and pasta, blending local ingredients with smoked elements.
Beyond dine-in service, Vasaqa has expanded into catering for private events, corporate functions and international productions.
With Easter approaching, the restaurant is expected to draw crowds at its 2 Palm Road, Wailoaloa location. Customers can also opt for Vasaqa’s Easter Lovo Tray, featuring a lovo whole chook, slow-braised lovo lamb neck and crispy ika miti, alongside other Fijian favourites designed for sharing.
