Ms Topaz was named the Best All-Around Recruit of the RFMF Basic Recruit Course 1/25.
The award recognises her outstanding performance across all areas of training, physical fitness, discipline, leadership, and teamwork.
“Training was hard sometimes,” she said, fighting back tears.
“I managed to do it. There were days I wanted to give up, but I reminded myself who I was doing it for.”
Twelve weeks of intense military training meant being away from home and the people she loved most.
“I missed my family every day. Some nights, I’d just sit and think about home, but I kept going because I wanted them to be proud.”
Her brother Kemueli Moi was also part of the passing-out parade.
“Seeing her achieve this brought tears to my eyes,” Mr Moi said.
“She’s always strong, but today she proved it to the whole country.”
As proud families looked on, Ms Topaz stood tall in her uniform. It was a proud moment she will never forget.
“I carried my family in every step. This award is not just for me, it’s for them.’’
