Engineer Accused Of Raping Wife Bailed

A Nausori engineer facing a rape charge was granted bail by the High Court in Suva, yesterday.
The accused appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge.
It is alleged that the accused raped his wife in February, 2019.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Sadaf Shameem objected to bail on the ground that the accused was likely to interfere with the complainant, who is the main witness for the prosecution.
Justice Aluthge granted bail to the accused on a bail bond of $500 and $1000 each for his two sureties.
The accused was ordered not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses or the complainant.
He was ordered to surrender his travel documents and passport to the court and report to the Nausori Police Station on the last Saturday of every month between 8am and 4pm.
Justice Aluthge also issued an interim domestic violence restraining order against the accused with non molestation and non contact orders.
