Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran is driving a major push to bring more Fijian women into the digital economy, with a new partnership taking shape between the Government and the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
The initiative, centered on a nationwide digital literacy programme, which aims to equip women with practical skills to access jobs, grow small businesses, and participate more fully in an increasingly digital world.
It will focus especially on those in rural and maritime areas, informal settlements, and women already supported through social protection programmes.

"Digital literacy is a key area under WEENAP, and it is critical that women are equipped with the skills and knowledge to participate meaningfully in today’s digital economy."
The programme aligns with Fiji’s Women’s Economic Empowerment National Action Plan (WEENAP) 2025–2030, which prioritises expanding economic opportunities, strengthening skills, and improving digital inclusion for women across the country.
During a courtesy visit, KOICA’s new Deputy Country Director Seoyeun Bang reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry and its Department of Women to roll out the project.
Ms Kiran welcomed the partnership, stressing that digital literacy is now essential for women to participate meaningfully in the economy and improve livelihoods at the grassroots level.
She said the Government is looking to formalise the agreement soon, paving the way for implementation and wider reach.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to reach women at the grassroots level, especially those who are part of our social protection programs and registered women’s groups.
"This will help improve livelihoods and create more inclusive economic opportunities," Ms Kiran said.
The collaboration signals a strengthened partnership between Fiji and KOICA, with both sides focused on creating more inclusive economic opportunities and empowering women nationwide.
