Samoan singer Lapi Mariner, a fellow artist and longtime friend of George “Fiji” Veikoso, delivered a heartfelt tribute during the late music icon’s memorial service that left few dry eyes in the crowd.

Their friendship began in 2000 when Fiji invited, young Mariner to hang out after a concert.

“The rest of my band had family plans, but I saw mine in the morning… just in case,” Mariner said.

“Something did happen. That moment changed my life.”

For the next 25 years, Mariner toured the world with Fiji—nine countries, countless shows, and unforgettable memories.

“He wasn’t just a singer,” Mariner said.

“He introduced me to NFL stars, artists, fans. He gave us more than a stage—he gave us purpose.”

Fans loved their inside joke. Fiji was “King George.” David was “King David.” And Mariner? “Don’t call me Prince,” he told Fiji. “Call me Batman.”

With emotion rising, Mariner closed his tribute with a gospel song the duo recorded in 2016—Agnus Dei—which has never been released to the public.
