The Housing Authority is reminding homeowners to follow strict safety guidelines when storing fuel at home.

The Housing Authority is warning homeowners that storing large quantities of fuel at home poses serious safety risks and may breach national regulations.

The caution follows concerns raised by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Consumer Council of Fiji, which highlight that excessive fuel storage goes beyond normal household use and can create hazardous conditions.

The Authority says its Group Property Insurance covers only standard domestic use and may not apply where fuel is stored in unreasonable amounts. Claims could be rejected if excessive fuel contributes to damage or loss.

Chief executive officer Isikeli Navuda urged homeowners to follow safety guidelines.

“The safety of our customers and their homes is our top priority. Excessive fuel storage increases risk and may affect insurance claims,” he said.

Homeowners are advised to store only necessary quantities and comply with all safety and legal requirements.
