Man Accused Of Raping A Woman In Her 70s Remanded

A 20-year-old man who is accused of raping a woman in her late 70s, before he allegedly stole $50 cash, has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.
Alipate Lauti appeared before High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge yesterday.
Currently on a Police charge, Lauti faces one count of burglary, one count of indecently annoying any person, three counts of rape, one count of attempt to rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of theft.

The alleged incident occurred on July 30 this year at the complainant’s home in Lami.
The State Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Bhavna Kantharia told the court that the disclosures had been filed and served to the accused.
She requested time from the court to file Information as the ODPP had received the transcript of the video recording interview on Tuesday and she was yet to go through it.
Lauti confirmed to the court that he received his disclosures. The Judge granted time and adjourned the matter for information on September 19.
