By investing in compassionate, evidence-based rehabilitation, we are investing in our people, our families and the future of our nation.
That was the message from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka as he officially opened the new Drug and Alcohol Recovery Programme facility at Richards Road in Suva on Friday, describing it as an important step in helping people overcome addiction and rebuild their lives.
Mr Rabuka said the rehabilitation centre would play a key role in Fiji's response to substance abuse by providing treatment, rehabilitation and support for people battling addiction.

"As Fiji pursues its goal of achieving sustained economic growth of six per cent annually, we must also invest in the wellbeing, resilience and potential of our citizens," he said.
He said the programme would help restore lives, strengthen families and enable recovering addicts to become productive members of society.
"By investing in compassionate, evidence-based rehabilitation, we are investing in our people, our families and the future of our nation," he said.
Mr Rabuka said the programme also supported Fiji's vision of an "Ocean of Peace" by promoting stronger communities, social cohesion and human security.
He said the initiative reflected the strong partnership between Fiji and New Zealand and their shared commitment to tackling social issues affecting families and communities.
The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services will work alongside the Salvation Army and other partners to ensure the successful operation of the rehabilitation facility.
