High Court Justice Thushara Rajasinghe has revoked bail for a 19-year-old man accused of rape.

Josua Bueta yesterday was remanded in custody after Justice Rajasinghe said a relative of the accused had approached him in his private chamber with a letter containing the signature of the complainant willing to withdraw the case.

Justice Rajasinghe said the condition of Bueta’s bail was not to interfere with the state witness including the complainant.

He said on the breach of the bail condition, he revoked Bueta’s bail and remanded him in custody along with Bueta’s co-accused Molitoni Vunivavalagi, 27.

Bueta and Vunivavalagi are each charged with one count of rape.

It is alleged that both men, on December 14, 2017, had unlawful carnal knowledge of the 24-year-old complainant.

The alleged incident occurred in Lami following a drinking party.

The State was represented by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions lawyer Swastika Sharma.

Both the accused persons were represented by Legal Aid Commission lawyers Litiana Ratidara and Lisiate Qetakai.

The case was adjourned to April 15.
