Fiji's Roving Ambassador Esela Teleni has passed away.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Inia Seruiratu Confirmed Mr Teleni died on Friday night.

He was the Roving Ambassador/ High Commissioner designate based at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Suva.

He was accredited to 11 Pacific Islands States and was Special Envoy to the Regional

Organisations under the Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific. He took up the Roving Ambassador role 2019.

Previously, Mr Teleni served as Fiji's High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea and before that as Ambassador to the People's Republic of China.

Mr Teleni was a naval officer by profession and rose to the rank of Captain. From July 200 to mid-2010 (navy), he was appointed Commissioner of the Fiji Police Force.

Soldiers who worked under his leadership remember him as a "father-figure and mentor".

Many however have fond memories of Mr Teleni on therugby field. He dominated at number 8 when he donned the Suva jersey and later when he represented Fiji.
