Teenager Found Dead On River Bank, She Was Ready To Graduate

The lifeless body of a teenager was found at the Yavulo Village river bank in Sigatoka on Monday afternoon.
It is understood that Kinisimere Marama, a 19-year- old Technical College student of TISI Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Campus, was looking forward to graduate on May 5.
A cousin, Selina Nabeqa, who accommodated the victim and her younger sister at their house in Barara, Sigatoka, said the last time they met the victim was on Saturday evening before they left for Suva.

“Last Saturday, she came back from the market and did her shopping for the weekend. She dropped us off at the road and told us that she would stay overnight at my younger sister’s place,” Mrs Nabeqa said
“On our return from Suva on Monday, we saw her clothes still hanging on the line outside and her shopping with her purse were inside the house.
“We thought she was still at my sister’s place. But, that Monday we heard that a body of a young girl was found at Yavulo Village river,” she said.
“Marama came to work on the farm a month ago to save money for her graduation next month. Last week, her graduation dress was sewn by a neighbouring tailor.
“She left my sister’s place on Sunday morning to go to church because she was part of the choir and that was the last time they saw her alive. Then there was news that her body was found by the river side, a few metres away from home.
“She was always concerned about taking care of her younger sister who she came with,” she added.
Ms Marama hailed from Nabobuco in Naitasiri and was the second youngest of nine siblings.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the deceased’s body was found by a 12-year- old.
The deceased was identified by a relative on Thursday. Ms Naisoro said a post mortem examination would ascertain the cause of death.
Police investigation is underway.
