Toddlers at Rainbow Day Care Centre in Labasa joined thousands of devotees worldwide in celebrating Ram Navami today.

The day was more than just a celebration for the young children, as women from the Shiu Om Parvati Mahila Mandal engaged with them, explaining the significance of the festival, which marks the birth of Lord Ram.

Rainbow Day Care Centre founder Sheela Krishna highlighted the importance of teaching children about different religions and their celebrations.

“As part of the cultural curriculum at the centre, we observe all kinds of religious celebrations to teach children how to respect and appreciate each other, fostering the love and unity that Fiji is known for,” Ms Krishna said.

She also thanked the women’s group from Vunicuicui, Labasa, for dedicating their time to teach the children and share messages of love.

Shiu Om Parvati Mahila Mandal president Sashi Kala said the group aims to set an example for other women by playing an active role in imparting religious knowledge beyond their usual schedules and responsibilities.

Samabula Shiv Temple member Shrish Acharya in Suva encouraged Hindu devotees to embrace the teachings of Lord Ram, explaining that love for Lord Ram naturally inspires care for the environment and fellow people.

“Ram was born to remove violence, darkness, and sin, and to promote good deeds,” Mr Acharya said.

“We, as Hindu devotees, should also strive to do good deeds.”

Pundit Krishneel Tiwari, national secretary of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, expressed appreciation for the nationwide participation in this year’s celebrations. He noted the strong involvement of youth and families, which fosters cultural pride and spiritual awareness.

He commended the efforts of organizers and volunteers for ensuring the events were conducted peacefully and disciplined. Addressing social concerns, Pundit Tiwari urged citizens, especially youth, to take a firm stand against drug abuse and violence, highlighting the destructive impact of such behaviors on individuals, families, and communities.

He encouraged everyone to embrace Lord Ram’s teachings of self-control, respect, and compassion.

“The Sabha also extends its sincere gratitude to the Fiji Police Force for their continued support and for providing additional patrols throughout the week-long celebrations,” Pundit Tiwari said.
“Their presence has played a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of devotees across the country.”

He also reminded the public to avoid disposing of plastics or non-biodegradable items into the sea, advising that only natural offerings such as flowers be used to protect Fiji’s marine environment for future generations.
