Tui Nayau urges Lauan youth to stay rooted in culture
At the $10 million Yatu Lau Arcade reopening, Ratu Tevita Mara tells young Lauans that strong cultural values and unity are key to personal success and community growth.

Na Turaga Bale na Tui Nayau, Sau ni Vanua ko Lau, Ratu Tevita Kapaiwai Uluilakeba Mara, has urged youths in his province to stay grounded in their identity as they build their futures.
Speaking to hundreds gathered at the reopening of the refurbished Yatu Lau Arcade in Suva today, Ratu Tevita reminded young Lauans that the strength of their community has always come from unity, respect, and remembering their place of belonging.
“In all your success, never forget where you come from,” he said.

“Your roots are not a burden; they are a foundation. They are what carry you when life becomes difficult.”
He told young people that as Lauans continue to excel in education, business, and leadership, their cultural identity must guide how they contribute to Fiji.
“No matter where you go in the world, you carry Lau with you,” he said.
“When you rise, you lift your family, your vanua, and the generations that will come after you.”
Ratu Tevita also emphasis ed that strong cultural values can help young people navigate modern challenges.
“In a fast-changing world, identity is your compass,” he said. “If you know who you are, you will never be lost.”
The refurbished Yatu Lau Arcade, now valued at over $10 million, was reopened to create new economic opportunities for families and small businesses.
Ratu Tevita said the project is a reminder that progress must always honour the past.
“We move forward, but we do not erase the footsteps behind us,” he said. “That is how our people stay strong.”
