Sixty-six-year-old Margaret Chandra has called for more Police patrols around her neighbourhood at Nacara Street in Vatuwaqa after her washing machine was stolen from her home.

Ms Chandra, who lives alone with her special needs daughter, said she feared for both their lives and felt more security was needed at her neighbourhood.

“Our 7.5 kg washing machine and some of our clothes left on the clothes line were stolen. I filed a complaint with Police and I am still waiting for an update from them,” Ms Chandra said.

“Last weekend after I went to put our garbage out on the roadside, I noticed my letterbox destroyed and left in pieces.

“This place is really dark at night and that has made it easier for intruders to enter our compound and take whatever they want,” she added.

Ms Chandra is thankful to her neighbour for keeping a lookout on them.

She has also called on the authorities to have more patrol and take seriously complaints from members of the public.

In the same neighbourhood a family is also living in fear after they were robbed early yesterday morning in their home.

The suspect entered the home and stole items including mobile phones, cash and video games.

Later in the afternoon, family members went around the neighbourhood and found some of the stolen items dumped at the nearby mangrove swamp.

The matter has been reported to Police who said investigations were still in progress.
