Ratucove Thanks Parish Priest

Training at Mount Ko­roirea in Solevu, Bua paid off for Immacu­late Conception College athlete Abarayamo Ratu­cove.

He won silver in the intermediate boys 800 metres clocking a time of 2:03.74 minutes.

Originally from Vuya, Bua he shares maternal links to Lawaki, Tailevu.

ICC fielded 13 athletes for the Games and won two medals.

“It’s my first Coke Games and I want to return here every year before I finish high school,” he said.

“Everything is new; crowd, tracks and the Games atmosphere.

“Preparing for Cokes was tough; I wanted to give up most times as we train at Mt Koroirea, the highest peak in Solevu.

“I’m happy that all those hard work paid off.

Ratucove also acknowledged Parish priest Father Leone Kolikoli who spon­sored their track suits.

Meanwhile, Mahatma Ghandi Memo­rial High School sprinter Waisele Inoke and Adi Cakobau School’s Frances Tuva won the Overall Best Male and Female Athlete awards respectively..

Inoke won gold in the senior boys 100 metres and long jump while Tuva won gold medals in the intermediate girls 200 metres, 400 metres and 4x100 metres relay.

They both won a trophy each, $250 from Digicel Fiji and $1000 from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Fiji.
