This is a miracle, says Fiji Airways Fijian Sevens utility back Filipe Sauturaga after he was named the FNB Greatest Player of the World Cup Final.
“It’s after 17 years for us to come and win the World Cup,” he said.
Sauturaga said they came with the intention to give their best and try to do the nation proud.
“I can only thank God for this miracle,” he added.
Sauturaga, captain, Waisea Nacuqu and lanky forward Joseva Talacolo are members of the Fiji Police Force.
In Fiji’s 29-12 win over the All Blacks Sevens team in the final, Talacolo scored the first try within 30 seconds while Sauturaga scored the fourth try, right on the stroke of halftime.
Nacuqu out for 8 weeks
Fiji Airways Fijian Sevens captain, Waisea Nacuqu, will be out for eight weeks because of an arm injury.
Nacuqu confirmed this to SUNsports yesterday indicating that he should be back for the Hong Kong Sevens, which is on November 4-6.
The key playmaker got injured in the second half of the Rugby World Cup Sevens final against the All Blacks Sevens side on their way to a 29-12 win.
Bitter memories of 2018
France-based winger Eroni Sau in congratulating Nacuqu on the World Cup Sevens win, revealed what took place during the 2018 World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.
Sau indicated the win in Cape Town and with Nacuqu hoisting the Melrose Cup brought back memories of 2018 when they cried together in their hotel room after being dropped from the 12-member squad.
