Fiji teams fall short in World Cup opener

The two teams fought hard in their World Cup debut in China

The Fiji men’s and women’s team were off to a challenging start at the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) 3x3 Under-23 World Cup which is underway in China.

The two teams fought hard in their World Cup debut and both lost their first two matches.

The women’s team lost to New Zealand and Czechia, 7-15 and 3-21, respectively, while the men’s team was defeated by United States, 21-7, in the first match and went down 14-21, to Latvia in their second match.

Estelle Penny Angelina Kainamoli has a total of six points after the two matches; while Ranadi Sweden Tuivavalagi Koroi has scored four points.

Isaac Jovili Sewabu currently leads the points for the Fiji men's side with 11 after the two games;  Keenan Latrelle Hughes has five points so far.

The men’s team will take on China at 10:20pm tomorrow and Qatar at 1am on Sunday; the ladies will play against Uganda at 9:30pm and face Netherlands at midnight on Sunday.

Meanwhile, other members of the women’s team includes Moana Liebregts, and Camari Ravai while the men’s side has Gabriel Tuivanuavou and Tevita Vocea.
