Some of the top swimmers from the Fiji National Schools Age Group Championship will travel to Melbourne, Australia, next month to compete at the Australian Schools Championships.
Fiji National Schools Swimming Association president Salaseini Lele confirmed a team would be selected from the championship, with final numbers dependent on parental consent.
Ms Lele was also pleased with the success of the two-day competition, which saw 10 records broken.
“We will review the results, inform the parents and then plan to take a team to Melbourne,” Ms Lele said.
“One of our goals for this championship was to break records and we achieved that.
“It was good to see other schools developing more swimmers, which is one of the key objectives of schools swimming. Seeing so many development swimmers is a success.
“We thank God for the lovely weather.”
Nadi's Swami Vivekananda College (SVC) emerged as the new boys' champion at the National Schools Age Group Championship.
The school won 22 gold, 22 silver and 13 bronze medals to dethrone defending champions Marist Brothers High School (MBHS).
MBHS finished second with 15 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals.
Veiuto Primary School placed third with 10 gold medals.
In the girls' division, Drasa Avenue School (DAS) of Lautoka successfully defended its title.
DAS collected 21 gold, six silver and 12 bronze medals.
SVC finished second with 15 gold, 13 silver and 21 bronze medals.
Saint Joseph's Secondary School was third with 10 gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals.
Ms Lele congratulated all participating schools, particularly DAS for its continued success.
“Congratulations to all the schools that took part, especially Drasa Avenue School, which continues to perform strongly despite being one of the smaller schools in the competition,” she said.
