Our Superman: Veikoso children share heartfelt memories

He was our Superman," said Shilo Veikoso, one of five children of the late George Brooks Veikoso, known to the world as 'Fiji'.
As the Pacific mourns the loss of the reggae legend, his children remember him not just as a global star, but as a loving father and gentle giant.
"Dad taught us to love fully, give generously, and always honour where we come from," said daughter Arietta, her voice filled with emotion.

The family's loss was deeply felt across the Pacific, where Mr Veikoso's music brought islands together and opened doors for many Fijian artists.
But at home, he was simply "Georgie," a devoted dad whose spirit lives on through his children.
"He promised, 'I'll always be there,"' said Shilo.
"Now we know his spirit never left."

Mr Veikoso passed away on July 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, and inspiration.
From his roots in Buretu, Tailevu, to commanding stages across Hawaii, Tonga, Samoa, New Zealand, and beyond, Mr Veikoso's music was the sound of the Pacific soul.
"George wasn't just famous. He was family first," said his mother Adi Nanise Veikoso.
"He taught us to love fully, give generously, and honour where we come from."
Mr Veikoso was laid to rest yesterday at Lovonilase Cemetery in Suva.
He is survived by five children, four grandchildren, and a legacy that will echo across oceans.
