Fijian chef Reddy heads to world stage

A local executive chef will represent Team Fiji on world culinary stage.
Navneet Reddy will display Fijian produce and plant-based innovation during the Global Chefs Challenge finals in Wales.
The Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort executive sous chef is looking forward to the event in Newport, Wales, from May 16 to 19.

The multi-award-winning chef, has previously represented Fiji in regional and international culinary competitions, earning recognition for his precision, creativity, and consistency.
“I have 17 years of experience in my culinary journey and this is another opportunity to represent Fiji on the world stage,” Mr Reddy said.
“This is the biggest challenge for me because I will compete against chefs from 16 countries.”
Having started his training at Fiji National University Mr Reddy built his culinary career at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, where he rose through the ranks into leadership role.
He has helped shape diverse dining experiences across the resort’s restaurants and is known for specialising in vegan cuisine, with a modern approach to plant-based dining.
“We want to showcase Fiji as a nation through our food, nature and resources,” he said.
Mr Reddy’s goal is to highlight Fiji’s unique produce and tell the stories behind local suppliers and ingredients.
Recently, he took part in Feast Fiji – Eight Hands Dinner, an initiative led by Fiji Chefs Association president Rakesh Kumar.
The event celebrated Fijian chefs who qualified for the Global Chefs Challenge Finals.
During the event, Mr Reddy presented an entrée of charcoal-crushed tuna (Braised heart of palm salad, confit orange with star anise, avocado puree, and spiced curry dressing).
“Fresh ocean tuna and local produce are central to what we do,” he said.
“We work closely with suppliers and use ingredients inspired by home-style cooking, presented in a modern way.”
This second leg of the three series will be held at Novotel Suva this Saturday from 6.30pm.
