Castaway Island Fiji GM Scoops Top Award

Fiji has some of the best tourism professionals and Steven Andrews has just furthered the point.

Known for his big heart, he stepped to the top of the global podium to win an international award.

Mr Andrews won the General Manager of the Year award in the Resorts and Hotels category at the Outrigger Way Awards in Hawaii.

Mr Andrews is general manager for Castaway Island Fiji and is known to lead from the front.

Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Brent Hill said Mr Andrews was known for giving back to the industry.

Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) chief executive officer Fantasha Lockington said he deserved the recognition.

“We’re proud that our tourism product is not just delivering amazing results, but that our people are also being recognised for roles in making their brand; in this case Castaway Island Resort, as well as Fiji, a preferred holiday destination with stellar efforts,” she said.

Under Mr Andrews’ exceptional leadership, Castaway Island achieved unprecedented success in 2023, marking a milestone in its multi-decade history.

“The recognition is not mine alone; it belongs to every member of the Castaway Vuvale,” Mr Andrews said.

His leadership extends beyond financial metrics, as he prioritises environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, aligning the resort’s operations with sustainable practices and community engagement.

His dedication to ESG performance reflects Castaway Island’s commitment to responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

Despite facing renovation challenges at the beginning of 2023, Castaway Island managed to deliver its best financial performance exceeding its targets by over 20 per cent.
