DISCUSSIONS TO INCLUDE ALTERNATIVE TO TOURISM

Delegates at an annual congress hosted by Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants have been reminded to come ready with questions for every session.

The two-day congress at Shangri-La Yanua Island will address trends, technology-enabled innovation and alternatives to tourism.

More than 400 delegates are expected to attend the annual congress when its gets underway this Friday.

“Delegates are encouraged to come prepared with questions for each session,” institute president Rajeshwar Singh said.

Prominent speakers will take the stage in three sessions, while President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere will deliver the keynote address.

Finance minister Biman Prasad will open discussions on where the economy is headed, while Tourism minister Viliame Gavoka and Opposition leader Inia Seruiratu will lead discussions on alternative to tourism.

Two diplomats will speakabout mega trends and technology -enable innovation.

Two are:

  • British High Commissioner, Dr Brian Jones.
  • Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Palaniswamy Subramanyam Karthigeyan, and
  • Chartered Accountants Australian New Zealand country head, Peter Vial.

Education

The education system plays a crucial role in bridging the labour/resource gap by equipping every Fijian with relevant skills and knowledge, Mr Singh said.

“Collaborating with educational institutions, FICA advocates for curriculum enhancements that aligns with industry needs and promotes practical skills development,” he said.

“By fostering closer ties between academia and the accounting profession, we can ensure a steady pipeline of talent equipped to meet the demands of the evolving labour market.

“We have signed a memorandum of understanding with Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Service; discussions are to hold a joint conference in August and include student participations."
