‘Union Must Allow Us To Lay Off Inefficient Staff’

Absenteeism will have to stop, as Fiji’s only gold producer works to improve productivity.

With over 89-years of production under its belt, Vatukoula Gold Mines Limited describes the need to lay off some non-performing workers to boost productivity.

“The union has to allow us to lay off some highly inefficient workers who abuse company policies,” Mr He said.

“Absenteeism is rampant.

“Productivity is very low.

“We need to improve productivity through discipline and training among the ranks.”

“We have an acute shortage of tech­nical people, especially experienced geologists and mining engineers” Mr He said.
